This article is also directly related to Lemmer’s 2024 opening presentation at the Breaching the Barricade Conference, “Power and Redemption: Who are We?” This presentation expanded upon his 2023 presentation, “Embrace the Power of Truth.” The 2024 presentation, which can be brought to your agency or association, explored even deeper into who police officers must be. Police officers have a sworn duty to directly confront evil. As a police officer, they have the power to point the way to redemption.
How we live our lives points each of us to certain ends. In performing their law enforcement duties, our police officers have the opportunity to change minds and touch hearts. Whenever any of us have the opportunity to help someone on their path to redemption, we should do so. Such is true to the policing mission.
